Welcome to the Wälti Lab!
Welcome to the research lab of Dr. Marielle A. Wälti at the University of Arizona. Our research focuses on the Hsp60/Hsp10 chaperonin system and the molecular mechanisms that drive chaperone-assisted protein folding. We combine structural biology, biophysics, and biochemistry to investigate how these remarkable molecular machines use ATP to recognize, encapsulate, and fold proteins into their functional conformations. Through these studies, we aim to uncover fundamental principles of protein homeostasis and understand how disruptions in chaperone function contribute to human disease.
